Crochet Bunny Hat Pattern

I made this hat pattern in 2013, which is still a fan favorite in 2023. I am told the bunny ears that stick up can be challenging to find, making this pattern so unique and fun. Crochet Bunny Hat Pattern

Materials Needed:

1. Yarn: Feels Like Butta, Soft Worsted Weight

Color A – White

Color B – Light Pink, or you can use Dusty Pink

2. Crochet Hook –H/8 - 5mm hook

3. Yarn Needle (blunt sewing needle with a big eye)

Stitch Abbreviations:

sc – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

ch – chain

Sc2tog – decrease

Finished Size:

Fits children from ages 5-8 years.

Stitch Explanation:

Sc2tog: single crochet the next 2 stitches together

Bunny Hat Pattern

With color A (white)

Ch 3

Rnd 1: 6 sc in last ch from hook. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (24 sc)

Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (30 sc)

Rnd 6: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (36 sc)

Rnd 7: (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (42 sc)

Rnd 8: (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (48 sc)

Rnd 9: (sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. (54 sc)

Ear Flaps (make 2)

Row 1: sc in next 18 sc. (18 sc)

Row 2: ch 1, turn work, sc in each sc across. (18 sc)

Row 3: ch 1, turn work, sc2tog, sc in next 14 sc, sc2tog. (16 sc)

Row 4: ch 1, turn work, sc2tog, sc in next 12 sc, sc2tog. (14 sc)

Row 5: ch 1, turn work, sc in each sc across. (14 sc)

Row 6: ch 1, turn work, sc2tog, sc in next 10 sc, sc2tog. (12 sc)

Row 7: ch 1, turn work, sc2tog, sc in next 8 sc, sc2tog. (10 sc)

Row 8: ch 1, turn work, sc in each sc across. (10 sc)

Note: On the second ear flap attach the color B (white) into the 18th stitch making sure to count from the last ear flap stitch on the 29th row. It does not matter which side of the earflap you count the 18 stitches from.

Follow first earflap pattern rnds 1-14 for the second ear flap.

With color A (white)

Ch 3

Rnd 1: 6 sc in last ch from hook. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat twice. (8 sc)

Rnds 3-4: sc in each sc around. (8 sc in each rnd 3-4)

Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat twice. (10 sc)

Rnds 6-7: sc in each sc around. (10 sc in each rnd 6-7)

Rnd 8: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat twice. (12 sc)

Rnd 9: (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat twice. (14 sc)

Rnd 10: (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat twice. (16 sc)

Rnd 11: (sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat twice. (18 sc)

Rnd 12: (sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat twice. (20 sc)

Rnd 13: (sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat twice. (22 sc)

Rnds 14-24: sc in each sc around. (22 sc in each rnd 14-24)

Rnd 25: (sc2tog) repeat 6 times.

fasten off, leave a 15 in tail for attachment.

Edging

Attach color B (light pink) into any stitch on the last (29th) row of bunny hat.

Note: I usually like to attach the first stitch into a place that is unseen.

Rnd 1: sc in each sc around hat and both earflaps. (about 87 sc)

Fasten off, weave in any loose ends.

For the flower pattern click here

For Braids

Cut five – 40 inch strands of white yarn, and five – 40 inch strands of light pink yarn.

Pull all ten strands through the bottom of the earflap so that you have twenty – 20 inch strands.

Braid the strands and tie them off leaving 4 inches of length at the bottom.

Repeat process on opposite side.

Assembly

1. attach bunny ears to both sides of hat.

2. attach flower by stitching it over the left bunny ear.
